Author, Documentarian, and former Radio Host on all things Mayan. Dr. Jose Jaramillo has been leading trips throughout the land of the Maya for over 20 years. His knowledge and insights are priceless.

Day 1 


Welcome to Villahermosa, the beautiful capital of Tabasco, Mexico! Upon your arrival, we will settle into our accommodations and begin acclimating to the vibrant atmosphere of Southern Mexico. Once we have all gathered, we will prepare to continue our trip to Chiapas. 

You will need to need to purchase your flight to and from Villahermosa International Airport (VSA). 

Day 2

La Venta Museum

Before leaving Villahermosa, we'll explore La Venta Museum, and its majestic Olmec artifacts, offering a rich introduction to ancient Mesoamerican civilizations.

Flourishing from 1400 to 400 B.C., The Olmec civilization is considered one of Mesoamerica's first great civilizations. Famous for their mysterious colossal heads, the Olmec left many mysteries behind. 

In the afternoon, we will journey to the city of Palenque, where you can rest and prepare for the next day's adventure.

Day 3


Today we will visit the impressive archaeological site of Palenque. 

Palenque was a significant city-state in the ancient Mayan civilization, flourishing during the reign of King Pakal the Great in the 7th century. 

Pakal, known for his impressive 69-year reign, led the city through a renaissance, commissioning monumental architecture, including the renowned Temple of Inscriptions where his elaborate tomb was discovered. 

Under Pakal's rule, Palenque became a powerhouse of cultural, architectural, and astronomical advancements, leaving a rich legacy that continues to intrigue scholars and visitors alike.

Day 4

Agua Azul

Today we venture to the breathtaking Aqua Azul Waterfalls, where we can relax and refresh ourselves. 

The Agua Azul waterfalls, located in the Chiapas region of Mexico, are a breathtaking natural spectacle known for their azure-blue cascades. 

Surrounded by lush, verdant jungle, the waters tumble over limestone deposits creating multiple tiered falls and tranquil pools, creating an amazing environment.

Day 5

Mayan Calendar Workshop

Today we will host a Mayan Calendar Workshop and explore what is known as the Tzolk'in or Chol’qi 260 day sacred calendar.  Passed down for thousands of years through oral tradition, you will learn the ancient wisdom of understanding time as consciousness.

We will go over the basic function and understanding of the calendar, as well as dive deeper into the wisdom of each Nawal. You will learn why this calendar was so sacred and foundational to the Maya. Additionally you will learn how to apply the calendar to your own life.

Day 6

Yax Chilan

Prepare to be enchanted as we visit Yaxchilan, an ancient Maya city located on the banks of the Usumacinta River. Marvel at the city's well-preserved sculptured stone lintels, intricate stelae, and striking architectural structures. Yaxchilan's timeless beauty invites you to step back in time and connect with an ancient world.

Yaxchilan, an ancient Maya city located on the banks of the Usumacinta River in Chiapas, Mexico, is a captivating archaeological site shrouded in dense jungle foliage. Known for its exceptional well-preserved sculptured stone lintels, intricate stelae, and striking architectural structures, the city offers profound insights into the political and spiritual life of the classic Maya period. With its aura of mystery and its timeless beauty, Yaxchilan invites explorers to step back in time and connect with an ancient world.

Day 7

Return To VillaHermosa

Today we return to Villahermosa. Spend the day at leisure, reflecting on your journey and exploring any remaining sights in the city. This is an excellent time to shop for souvenirs, try local delicacies, or simply relax and enjoy the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Day 8

Depart Home

As our journey draws to a close, we prepare for our flights home.
